I am an artist, researcher and curator exploring collaborative networked arts and technology practices. I want to contribute to the redistribution of wealth and belonging, to better live the big questions of our day, with radical friends across difference, distance, and time.

Since 2015 I have been working with blockchain critique and development for the arts including: the book Artists Re:Thinking the Blockchain (Torque Editions, 2017) and the DAOWO blockchain laboratory and debate series with Ben Vickers, Serpentine Galleries (2017-ongoing). DECAL, Decentralised Arts Lab, will open in Spring 2019 as a collective mobilising crowdsourced research and development using blockchain and web 3.0 technologies. Our mission is to produce new channels for fairer, more dynamic and connected cultural ecologies and economies.

I am co-founder and co-director with Marc Garrett of Furtherfield (since 1996). Through labs, debates and exhibitions Furtherfield collaborates with artists, techies and thinkers, locally and internationally, to disrupt and democratise art and technology through deep exploration, open tools and free thinking. Currently we are investigating the new relationships between states, citizens and the stateless made possible by emerging technologies through State Machines – Art, Work, and Identity in an Age of Planetary-Scale Computation with Aksioma (SI), Drugo More (HR), Institute of Network Cultures (NL) and NeMe (CY) and a range of artists, curators, theorists and audiences across Europe.

I speak at, curate and run workshops at conferences & festivals. I have co-curated Furtherfield’s exhibition programmes since 2005 including Digital Zoo which toured to 5 major UK shopping centres (2014-15), & Collaboration & Freedom – The World of Free & Open Source Art (Arts Council England & P2P Foundation 2011). Artistic projects are exhibited internationally: Time is Speeding Up (20-21 Visual Arts Centre 2017, & London Art Fair 2018), Play Your Place with Mary Flanagan (US) (Tate, London Southbank Centre, 2012-15); Rethinking Wargames (Lo-fi Netart commission 2003) The Baltic, Gateshead, & Free Play with International Curation Projects (2015-17); DIWO (Do It With Others) Furtherfield (UK) (2007-), Pixelache (FI) (2012), CLICK (DK) (2014); WeWontFlyForArt (2009); & Zero Dollar Laptop (2010-12). My work is also featured on DVblog, the Rhizome Artbase & The Digital Kitchen.
