Back in February, I wrote about my Sumbiography, a biography that starts to dissolve human exceptionalism by acknowledging the role that my relationship with all life-forms has played my formation.

I have been involved with the The Hologram, a system of feminist peer-to-peer care invented by artist Cassie Thornton in 2020 with the support of Furtherfield and is now practiced by people around the world.

Social Holography allows us to see the different dimensions of our struggles and ask for help. Because all our struggles are connected!

This is my Holobiography.
I am a contributor to the book IT’S TOO LATE!  about being a cultural worker in the apocalypse, and its pair, DO IT ANYWAY: A Hologram strategy kit by Cassie Thornton, Magda Härtelova, Eleonora Toniolo, and Heather Kapplow. Ed, Erin Segal, Thick Press. USA 2025.

With Prem Krishnamurthy, and Amanda Nudelman I co-wrote Time Travel: A Spell, and then in Life After Curating, we transcribed a social holography session set in the future with with Magdalena Jadwiga Härtelova.

In place of the usual professional bio the book’s editors teased out our relationship the the Hologram and how we get healthcare.

1. What is your relationship to The Hologram?

I had the good fortune to be present at the early formation of The Hologram peer-to-peer healthcare system. In Spring 2020, at Furtherfield (where I am co-director), we hosted a series of workshops devised and facilitated by two witches: artist and debt activist, Cassie Thornton and a youth co-creation adept, Lita Wallis. The work was resourced through the EU-funded CreaTures research project into the transformative power of creative practices for sustainability. Covid wrecked our plans to work together in the flesh, at Furtherfield Commons in Finsbury Park in London. It also created an urgent need for the kind of new networks of care being created within The Hologram, so the workshop series moved online. 

Since this time I have been an enthusiastic fellow traveller, participant and sometime co-deviser in the practice of social holography. I was the first guinea pig for the Minimum Viable Hologram (MVH) in December 2020, and since then I have been supported by my own triangle of elders every couple of months. I continue to facilitate many other people to set up their own triangles. In 2021 I went deep into role for the Live Action Role Play LARP, We were made for this // 2050 Fugitive Planning, in which we used sci-fi to conjure new rituals for travelling together through time, and a vision for the future transformative power of the Hologram. The principles of social holography are now woven into many dimensions of my life. As a result, I now know that asking for what we need is a very hard and extremely important practice. Also, that refusing reciprocation or payment for care is a powerful way to fight capitalism and to build other worlds.

How do you get your healthcare?

Me and my family get our healthcare through hearty social holography and a national health service, still free at the point of delivery. The NHS is magnificent and has repeatedly saved our lives without bankrupting us. It is also desperately beleaguered as a result of decades of political vandalism.
